Herman Nitsch. Life and work. In this book, which will be published in English at the end of 2022, I present his oeuvre and his life. It is the result of my countless conversations with the important Austrian performance artist. Since the first edition in 1999, we have added new interviews to each edition and finally included his wife Rita Nitsch's point of view. It was important to me to portray the personality behind the actionist and painter, composer and stage designer. Growing up in the brutality of the Second World War and mourning the death of his father, the reader can follow the artist's career, from his actions and his artistic work to his private life, in which I was able to share many occurrences with him and his wife. On this note this book developed into a biographical and monographic standard piece. Nitsch was an impressive personality with an extensive knowledge far beyond art history: a leading authority in his knowledge of art history, philosophy, humanities or religions. This was all paired with his honest nature and deep sense of humour.
